Frederick G. SmithMr. Smith is the President of Utilities International, Inc. He founded Utilities International, Inc. in 1994 and has led the firm through rapid growth in establishing itself as a major provider of both consulting services and software technology.
Mr. Smith graduated from Saint Louis University with a Bachelors Degree in Accounting and Finance. He was elected to Pi Mu Epsilon for Achievements in mathematics and computer programming. Thereafter, he went on to complete his Masters in Management in Finance and Management Information Systems from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University. At Kellogg he won the Distinguished Scholar Award and was elected to Beta Gamma Sigma. Mr. Smith is a Certified Public Accountant.
Mr. Smith began his career in 1977 at KPMG Peat Marwick as a staff auditor and has held a number of Financial Management positions at CF Industries (a company involved in chemicals, oil refining, and river transportation). He began his consulting career in 1987 at Metzler and Associates, where he was successively promoted to Partner, where he was in charge of Financial Systems and Activity-Based Management consulting. At Metzler, he had a variety of assignments at more than two dozen utility clients.
Mr. Yeldell joined Utilities International in January 2001 as Vice President, Sales and Marketing. Steve received an honorable discharge from the US Navy in 1972, where he also received a BSEE equivalent from the United States Armed Forces Institute, with testing executed at Louisiana State University. Upon discharge from the Navy, he began his career as an instrumentation engineer at Honeywell, where he was involved in the initial development and implementation of TDC2000, the world’s first digital process control system.
Steve has over thirty years of sales experience with over twenty-five serving the utility industry. He was a founder of Generation 5 Technology, Inc. where he was responsible for the development and management of all sales and marketing efforts. G5, as they became widely known, developed the first object-oriented Geographical Information System over 10 years before the next serious competitor. As Director Tactical Sales and Business Alliances, Steve helped establish Smallworld Systems as the global leader in GIS based distribution management systems for the utility industry.
As Director Field Sales at Oracle Corp, he coordinated the activities for all Federal Systems efforts in the Western US. This included the Kansas City Federal Center as well as the Denver Federal Center, the largest federal center in the United States outside Washington DC.
William "Skip" PetterSkip Petter is a Vice President with Utilities International and is the primary architect of UII's Financial Planning Module of UIPlanner™. He has 24 years of experience in financial consulting and software development, while serving well over 20 utility industry clients.
Mr. Petter graduated from Stanford University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History. He completed his Masters in Management in Quantitative Methods and Marketing from Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University.
Mr. Petter began his consulting career at Planmetrics, Inc. in 1980. At Planmetrics, Mr. Petter built customized financial planning software systems, including their Gas Dispatch and Cost (GDC) model, the first off-the-shelf planning model to gain wide acceptance among gas utilities. In 1986, Mr. Petter led the team that developed Planmetrics’ suite of off-the-shelf financial planning models (usually known in the industry as “CFM”).
Mr. Petter left Planmetrics to become an independent consultant,working on custom software systems for both utility and non-utility clients. He then joined Energy Management Associates (EMA) in Atlanta to head up the Gas Integrated Resource Planning software effort. Mr. Petter led the Sendout team in developing the Windows based version and increasing the number of clients from about 30 to 60.
Roger LancasterMr. Lancaster is a Vice President with Utilities International. He has over 20 years of consulting and information technology experience and has served many utility clients. Mr. Lancaster graduated from Northwestern University with a BA in Mathematics. Thereafter, he went on to complete his Master of Science in Computer Science from Rutgers University.
Mr. Lancaster began his career with Sperry Univac in their military systems division where he worked on the Safeguard Anti-ballistic missile system writing computer hardware diagnostics. Following Safeguard, Mr. Lancaster continued with Sperry working at both the Naval Air Development Center (NADC) and Naval Air Test Center (NATC) writing hardware diagnostics for computer controlled sonar processing equipment.
Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) hired Mr. Lancaster to work as a consultant at Bell Telephone Laboratories. At Bell Mr. Lancaster worked on three projects, an integrated order/inventory/work management system (TIRKS), DMERT - a real time version of UNIX and 5ESS - a digital telephone switching system.
Datalogics, Inc. hired Mr. Lancaster where he wrote various computerized typesetting and text editing systems. The text editor was purchased by IBM and sold as IBM’s TextWrite. While at Datalogics Mr. Lancaster developed systems for Standard & Poors, Moodys, Doubleday, Commerce Clearing House and the US. Airforce.
Mr. Lancaster worked as a consultant at Discover Card where he wrote decision support and statistical analysis systems. These systems tracked sales trends that followed promotional campaigns.
Mr. Lancaster then joined Utilities International. At UII, he has designed numerous activity-based budgeting (ABB), cost reporting and project estimating systems. He has a leading role in designing UI’s structured application environment.
